This is the first blog of many that will be written over the next 200 days. There was a scene from “The Lord of the Rings” movie when all odds were against the king and as he looked over the valley at the on-coming and massive enemy approaching he said four words that stuck with me…”And So It Begins”. The point where preparation meets reality. That’s where I am. I’ve raced seven Baja races, but never more than five hours at a time. I’ve been racing/riding motorcycles for 40 years, but nothing close to this. The goal is a righteous one…to raise money for severely wounded veterans in my brother’s name, and hopefully bringing some normalcy back to lives where normal has been replaced with anything but. All because they chose to fight…for us.
I look forward to sharing my experiences with those of you who wish to join me in this journey. The odds may not be in my favor, but that just makes the story more interesting, right? My 56 year old body reminds me daily that it is not easy living up to the expectations of my 25 year old mind, but it is just going to have to. Forty continuous hours in the Mexican desert is going to be painful, but as our veterans have fought and still fight against the evil that is prevalent in this world, the pain and challenges I will face pale in comparison to theirs.
I am looking forward to sharing my journey with you…my “Blog Family” who I know will be following and praying for me over the next six months. I thank you for taking an interest and caring. As Winston Churchhill said while facing overwhelming odds against the Germans in WWII – “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts”.
And So It Begins…
